Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) 1. How do I go about getting an estimate from Kromar? Contact us by email, fax or phone with as much information you have available about the job you require. If we have questions or need additional information we will contact you. 2. Can I send my files electronically? Yes, we will provide you with the path to our FTP (File Transfer Protocol) site and the secure password for you to transfer your files to us. 3. What applications are acceptable for your prepress department? Quark XPress, PDF (with CREO drivers), PageMaker 6.5, InDesign, or PostScript. See the Support section for more in-depth information. 4. What is a proof? A proof is a check point in the process of producing a job. It can take many forms such as galley proofs, page proofs, bluelines or digital signature proofs. Proofs are used to ensure the job is being produced in the manner in which the customer intends it to be. 5. Why do I need a proof if I've given everything to Kromar on a disc? Even though you have supplied the files and everything looks fine on your system, when we open the files on our system something may change due to many different factors. Printer drivers used, fonts used, operating systems used etc. We need to be sure that the output from our system matches the output from your system. 6. Why do I have to supply fonts? By using the customers' supplied fonts there is less chance that the page layout may get changed when the final file is output to plate or film. 7. How do I set up my artwork, single pages or double-page spreads? Single page is the most versatile. Two page printer spreads are the most efficient. 8. How long does it take to complete my order? Delivery time depends on many factors. Complexity of the job, availability of paper, availability of press and bindery time. 9. Does Kromar produce hardcover books? Yes, in fact in 2001 we produced the largest single edition scientific text book in Canada. 10. Can Kromar do Foil Stamping? Yes, please see our Letterpress section on our Services page.
